Hi, Jane. Many of the books I've reviewed were given to me free of charge in exchange for providing an honest review. This arrangement allows me to read books I wouldn't normally purchase, so I don't mind not getting paid. Since I don't get paid, however, I limit the books I review to those I truly think I will enjoy.

Hi, Wylee. I don't mind a series, but I like the characters to achieve the story goal in each section. The Hobbit ended without them accomplishing what they set out to do, so there was no resolution. To fit the whole story into a regular-length film would require leaving out a lot of the action, so I understand why they did it this way--I just would rather not have to wait months to find out what happens next!

Thanks for taking time to comment!

I liked your post as well, and I agree with you.
But did you not know The Hobbit is only part one of a 3 part series?
there was no ending because you're only 1/3 through the story!

There are several foods that trigger memories for me--some good, some unpleasant. Despite that, I still overlook the sense of taste in my writing, too.

This is a lovely post, Carol, and a wonderful tribute to your mother. What lovely memories. :)

Your post really made me start thinking. I'm not sure if I've ever written about tastes. I have written scenes where people are eating but so far as describing the food I don't think I've ever done that either. Interesting, since food plays an important role in our lives on so many different levels. I love that you've pointed out the emotional side to food and how it can trigger memories..

I have just completed writing a book and reading through the writers' yearbook, I had no idea what market I had written for, as after 50,000 words, my brain was addled. Thanks for information - I think I'm a 'straddled'. Glin

Thank you, Carol. I looked at Rachel's website. It is encouraging. They want larger manuscripts than I have written, mine is 60k+, but they offered tons of info about the entire process, very helpful. Thanks to you too, Jon. I had heard but forgotten about browsing the bookstores.
Thanks again!

Rilla, I agree. It's amazing how our senses and our emotions work in harmony. You make a good point about taking some things for granted, and it's interesting that those things aren't the same for each of us. In my case, hearing is probably what I focus on most.

Bacon seems to be gaining in popularity again. Someone mentioned that Burger King has a bacon sundae, which doesn't sound good to me at all. I'll stick to green beans!

Thanks for taking time to share your thoughts.
