As 2013 begins, I hope to move forward in areas where I have been lax, such as writing blog posts. I’ll maintain the writing-related focus of this blog and, while I make no promises, I plan to post a minimum of once a week.
I’m at a crossroad in life and am not yet sure of what I want to do. Sort of like my cat.
He’s kept indoors 99.9% of the time and when let loose outside never ventures beyond the safety of the deck. He nibbles on the grass growing next to it, but won’t step out of his comfort zone to see what he could see. I don’t want to be like him.
I want to jump off the deck and wallow in the grass, figuratively speaking. I want to revel in whatever the new year brings me; to do things I’ve never done before—in reality, and in my writing.
Look out world; here I come!
What about you? What are you hoping to achieve in 2013? Are you setting specific goals or making any changes? Are you looking forward to anything special this year?
I feel exactly the same as you do Carol. I want to take a flying leap into all things new. I want to challenge myself to be a better person, and to do more for others. How that will manifest itself??? I also want to be healthier and have joined the gym. Hopefully I can achieve the fitness goals I have in my heart and feel more energetic to do more in the world around me.
Elizabeth, you’re already one of the nicest people I know, so you’ve got a real challenge if you’re going to improve in that area! I don’t know how I could have gotten through some of the difficulties I’ve faced if it weren’t for your prayers and encouragement.
Improving my health is one of my personal goals, too. I wish we lived closer so we could workout together.
Have to say, I loved the photos of your cats. The gray cat looks exactly like mine, even down to the environment he is roaming in with his playmate–the circle filled with landscape rocks. I think we all feel the same as you, that we should do more.
Thank you! I have a weakness for cats and the gray one is a family favorite. He’s the most intelligent one of the bunch.
From your blog, it looks like you’re already quite busy working on an historical novel. I enjoyed the post on the inspiration you received from your great-grandmother’s notes on herbal remedies. I’ve signed up for email notifications so I won’t miss out on your future posts!
Happy New Year, Carol. I think I just want to end each day with the feeling that I’ve actually accomplished something. There were many days in 2012 when I could not actually say that. They don’t have to be big things, but something productive, healthy, fun, or some combination of the three.

Jon, I feel the same. Last year was very stressful for me, and I blame that on my failure to accomplish anything noteworthy in 2012. However, life is always stressful. If we focus on our daily accomplishments, big or small, I think we will be healthier and happier. Good luck to you on meeting those daily goals!
